INTERVIEW WITH LOUDMOUTH PLUS FREE DOWNLOAD
By Fiona Donnellan – February 3, 2012
Loudmouth is a collective, a bunch of like minded musicians, producers, DJ’s, vocalists, artists, designers, photographers and film makers. Musically Loudmouth crosses several genres including hip-hop, electronica, techno, dubstep, ambient and experimental music.
Littlegreen caught up to have a chat with Blake and Ciaran, aka CF Meister, from the collective to talk about their latest releases and plans for the future.
You can check out the Loudmouth website here,
or Ciaran’s website for more details!
LG: Tell us a bit about the collective? How did it come about?
B: We’re a group of like minded people from the music side of things, coming together and joining efforts to promote each other.
C: Well, originally it started off as a blog.
B: Yeah, I was in college and it was my media project, I set up the website, Loudmouth that promoted music, promoted the local scene and then when I finished college I decided to keep it going.
C: Yeah it was an idea that the website could be used for all these other things going on, like promoting EPs. So, me and Blake were in Exxon Valdez together, making music and then Cian was in Exxon Valdez too making his own music and I decided I wanted to release an EP so Blake kind of took charge of the whole management side of things. That’s how that started; we essentially started a label.
B: Our first release was me and my brother, (The Gruesome Twosome) who was also in Exxon Valdez. (Sensing a patter?) Then we’d the first compilation of just all music we enjoyed, a lot of them were close friends who we would have went to school with or college and a couple from NCAD.
C: Even people from primary school, all the way back!
LG: Who is involved, in the management side of things?
C: Blake is CEO, I don’t know what my title is.
B: Ciaran connects all the dots, he runs the art department. Someone will have a new music release, they give it to Ciaran and he listens to it and decides who would do the best artwork from his connections.
C: Sam helps with general things, recently Sean Redahan and Kate McCarroll, who are involved in Salt, we took them on to share the burden, help with events because they can be quite painful.
C: Pass the burden on, (Ciaran laughs) we’re not very good socially, so they’re good with that talking to people part.
B: We just sit in the corner and hope for the best.
LG: Any other planned releases?
B: Well, we’ve Mick. E Rawk coming up on the 17th. They will be launching their new free download Mick’s Tape. A side project by Leigh C (Exxon Valdez, The Gruesome Twosome, Yo Han Garfunkel & The Caribou Kid) and C.F.Meister (Exxon Valdez, Yo Han Garfunkel & The Caribou Kid, Speech Impediment.)
We’re doing State magazine versus Loudmouth. Mick. E Rawk, which is Ciaran and Leigh, it’s inspired by Death Grips, kind of hip on. It’s on in The Mercantile, with support from The Notas.
Yeah, Niall from State got in touch, was nice to be approached.
Then there is The Archetype EP which is just released.
LG: What are Loudmouth’s plans for future?
C: We’ve loads of ideas, it’s just trying to find the time. We’d art exhibition in the Bernard Shaw a while ago with lots of contributing artists.
B: We’re looking to do something along those lines except bigger, maybe with like Block T as a venue. A more modern take on a gallery, where you’re looking at art work and listening to DJs, not just sipping on wine. And then a tour, that’s out summer project. Just around Ireland if things go well, one weekend Cork, then another weekend in Galway, just trying to make connections as well.
LG: Do you think the recession has helped with the emergence of so many exciting collectives?
C: It’s definitely one of the main reasons, we’ve got this free time to work on this project, I say free time but it takes up most of our time. We’re always busy with contacting people and organizing releases.
B: It pushes people to do these things like collectives, promoting artists, getting them releases and getting them gigs.
